Midsummer Day 2025
Midsummer Day (Jaanipäev) is one of the oldest and most beloved national holidays in Estonia, celebrated around the summer solstice – the time when the day is longest and the night is shortest.
Traditionally, Jaanipäev is associated with symbols of nature, fire, and fertility: a large bonfire is lit, people sing and dance around it, jump over the flames for good luck, and search for the mythical fern flower, which is said to bring love and wisdom to its finder.
Jaanipäev brings together generations of Estonians through shared traditions, offering an opportunity to spend time with family and friends while enjoying the peak of summer in nature.
We've gathered information about Jaanipäev celebrations across Estonia.
